4 Productivity Books to Kick Start Your New Year With a Bang!

Over the past few years, I’ve come across several books that have made a major impact on my personal productivity. These productivity boosts outlined in the books below helped me in several facets of my life. These books helped me with defining and accomplishing goals with a timeline ranging from daily goals to life goals.

One of my favorite books, Eat That Frog, by Brian Tracey has had one of the biggest impacts on my daily production. Brain Tracey persuades you that if you tackle your biggest ugliest task for the day the rest of the day becomes more manageable. I’ve taken it one step further and I have three frogs that I try to eat each day in order of priority. When I was training for my first half marathon, my #1 frog was to complete the run for that day. I would run in the morning and eat the frog before my workday started. It’s a fairly quick read and he gives you 21 total ways to help you get more out of your time.

David Allen’s book, Getting Things Done, he shows you how to organize your to-do lists on a daily, weekly, and monthly scale. I still use some of the techniques that he discusses such as taking care of a task immediately if it takes less than 2 minutes to complete. If it takes longer than 2 minutes then either delete, defer it, or assign it. Some of his techniques are a little too rigid for me so I use a hybrid structure similar to his but with more flexibility built in.

Micahel Hyatt in his book, Your Best Year Ever, takes a more overall approach to look at your yearly goals. He spends some time covering S.M.A.R.T. goals with his own adjustments baked in. This is a great book to read before a new year starts to try to help remap and rethink the way you look at developing and accomplishing yearly goals. I didn’t read this book but listened to it on audible not once but twice. Definitely a great book to revisit each year to help review the upcoming year.

Jack Canfield’s book, The Success Principles, is by far one of the best books on achieving goals, boosting productivity, and living a more focused life. He has a total of 52 principles that he covers in his book. This book is perfect for buying prior to a new year starting because you can implement one new principle each week for a total of 52 weeks. All 52 principles can offer some life-changing events, however, the biggest principle that has stuck with me is the first: You must take responsibility for yourself because no one else is going to.
